Nintendos E3 Press Conference

Over the next three days, the EndSights crew will be taking a look at the upcoming E3 Press Conferences and examine what each person wants to see from the three hardware manufacturers.

We’ve already taken a look at Microsoft and Sony. Rounding out the pre-E3 looks is Nintendo.

Talor Berthelson, Staff Writer:

From Nintendo, I simply want to see games that interest me. As fun as Wii Fit and Wii Music are to some people, they do not appeal to me in any way. A new Mario or Zelda would be nice.

Also, I’d like to see Nintendo take sort of a Xbox Live Arcade approach when it comes to the shopping aspect. A deal of the week sort of thing where they take an underselling VC game and half the price of it. In general though, I do hope the shop is something they focus on as there is a lot of underused potential there. I honestly feel like the shop is so disconnected from the rest of the system that I can’t imagine at least half of the ownership of the Wii has even looked at it.

Denis Poirier, Editor-in-Chief:

Oh Nintendo, what have you got up your billion-dollar sleeve now? Another rhythm-based game? Some more casual games for the whole family to enjoy? I don’t know about you guys, but something tells me The Big N has something big scheduled for this year. A new Zelda game maybe?

Chuck Waltz, Staff Writer:

Much like just about everyone else, I was rather disappointed with what Nintendo had to offer at their press conference last year. While watching Cammie Dunaway flail around uncontrollably playing Wii Sports Resort was entertaining to say the least, I’m really hoping to see some more meaningful things come out of their conference this year. They did tease that the Zelda and Mario teams were working on projects last year, so hearing about at least one of those would be great.

Also, showing what the Wii Motion Plus can do in games that aren’t just tech demos is a must. To round things out, I would love to see some decent games that are coming to DSiWare soon. Some reassurance that we’re going to be seeing some things other than clocks come to this new service is much needed.

Art Green, Managing Editor:

I honestly am not really sure what I want to see from Nintendo. On the one hand, I’d imagine they’ll be spending a lot of the press conference time on a new “Wii ______” game, which will likely appeal to a wider audience but not interest me in the slightest. But I also want and expect them to announce a new Zelda for the Wii–and I honestly don’t know how I feel about that either. I’m sure the new Zelda would be fantastic, but the series doesn’t really appeal to me much anymore unless they make some significant revamps over Twilight Princess.

I’ll also echo what Talor said–I really want them to show off their chops in the downloadable space. WiiWare has been grossly underutilized, with the only new, original, exclusive title on WiiWare that I loved being Lost Winds. Hopefully we’ll their plans for the DSi shop as well–still have my 1000 points waiting for something worthwhile to come out for the service. (That isn’t a puzzle game.)

PS3 Slim Box

The rumored pictures of the PS3 slim immediately brought, like a chorus of boos at Question Time, denunciations of fakery. They sure got us in trouble with a lawyer-mans. But someone thinks the retail box, at least, is real.

PlayStation Lifestyle took a look at the Slim Box, compared to the PSP Go Box, and thinks the Slim box is standardized enough that it isn’t fake, which gives credence to the pics of the hardware itself. Saith PSL:

The box has a strikingly similar layout as the PSP Go box. The logo on the bottom left hand side, along with the PSN logo, and memory capacity on the bottom right hand side. Also the Sony, and PlayStation logos in each respective upper corners. Lastly the colored XMB wave “stripe” across the middle of the box with the PS3/PSP layered over it is the same on each box, just using a different color for each box.

Not saying they’re fake, not saying they’re real, just letting you make up your mind with more information. And queue C&D from a Taiwanese attorney in 3 … 2 …

ESRB Rates Original Final Fantasy VII for PSN

While diehard fans around the world still dream about a fabled Final Fantasy VII remake, it looks like they’ll at least get to play the original on their PlayStation 3 and PSP soon. One Last Continue reports (via Kotaku) that the Electronic Software Ratings Board has posted a listing for Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation 3 and PSP, suggesting a PSN re-release is incoming.

FFVII recently received a PSN release in Japan, so it’s not a surprise the game would eventually come out in North America. Unfortunately, the ESRB is not in the business of setting or revealing release dates, so there’s no word yet on when to expect the game to be available. Hopefully Sony will find time to get around to it at E3 — perhaps announcing a surprise release next Thursday? Hey, we can hope.
